INAUGURAL CONCERT:
ARLINGTON PHILHARMONIC PERFORMS FIRST, FREE CONCERT

For Immediate Release, Arlington, VA, March 18, 2006 — The new Arlington Philharmonic, led by Maestro Ruben Vartanyan, the acclaimed Music Director of the former Arlington Symphony, will perform their first concert on Sunday, April 9th, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the new Kenmore Middle School Auditorium in Arlington. Maestro Vartanyan will conduct a chamber orchestra of local professional musicians, in selections by Charles Wakefield Cadman, Mozart, Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky.  It will also feature a distinctly local touch:  a new arrangement of the re-discovered “Arlington Song”.  The concert is free and no tickets are required.

Violinist Olivia Hajioff will be the featured soloist in the “Spring” movement from Vivaldi’s “Four Season’s”.  Hajioff is half of the accomplished violin duo “Marcolivia” – the other half, Marc Ramirez, will also be on stage serving as Concertmaster of the orchestra. Gene Galvin, noted local Baritone, will be soloist for the “Arlington Song”.  In addition, the orchestra will perform the “American Suite” by C. W. Cadman, as well as the familiar “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by Mozart, and Tchaikovsky’s brilliant showpiece, the “Serenade for Strings”.

Rich Kleinfeldt, well known to local audiences as radio announcer, musician, and concert lecturer for the former Arlington Symphony, will serve as Concert Host.  Kleinfeldt, a big supporter of the former ASO, says of this effort, "I would hope that Arlingtonians see the value in supporting the new organization as an important cultural institution. It's an aspect of our community that makes Arlington such a wonderful place to live, along with good transportation, environment, education, and the arts in general.  The community orchestra is something to be proud of.”

Music Director Ruben Vartanyan conducted the former Arlington Symphony for 13 seasons.  During his acclaimed international career, he served as Conductor of the Bolshoi Opera and Music Director of the National Symphony of Bolivia, and was conductor-in-training under the legendary Herbert von Karajan at the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras.

The Arlington Philharmonic is continuing the artistic mission of its predecessor, the Arlington Symphony, but with a new accent on increased community involvement.  The specific goals of this new organization are to provide first-rate classical music performance, and, over the long-term, to provide free concert tickets to children and senior citizens.  For further information, call 703-243-5155, or visit the group’s website at http://www.arlingtonphilharmonic.org/
