A fundraiser for the Philharmonic's upcoming season. Musicians from the orchestra performed selections from Beethoven's string quartets and commented briefly on the composer's life, Europe's convulsion under Napoleonic warfare, and the cultural transition to Romanticism.

Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff together form the duo Marcolivia, which has performed around the world and is on the faculty of Shenandoah University, Las Vegas Summer Music Festival and Dartington International Summer Festival.

Mr. Thayer is the retired Principal Horn of the National Symphony Orchestra. A native of Weymouth, Massachusetts, he earned his Bachelor of Music cum laude and Master of Music with Performance Honors from the University of Illinois. His major teachers were Willem Valkenier and James Stagliano of the Boston Symphony and Thomas Holden at the University of Illinois. Prior to joining the National Symphony in 1972, Mr. Thayer was the Principal horn in the Richmond and Norfolk Symphonies and was an Associate Professor of Music at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently on the music faculty of George Mason University and Catholic University as well as the Kendall Betts Horn Camp.
